Tongayi Chirisa

Tongayi Arnold Chirisa (born 8 August 1981) is a Zimbabwean actor, voice actor and singer. He began his career in Zimbabwe in the early 2000s before moving to South Africa and later the United States. He is known for the role of Detective Trevor Davies in the Zimbabwean television drama Studio 263, Man Friday in the NBC series Crusoe, and Ciprien Grieve in the AMC series Mayfair Witches. He voices the African samurai Yasuke in the video game Assassin's Creed Shadows. In 2025 he starred in the Zimbabwean short film Rise, for which he won several international acting awards.

The Biography

Chirisa attended Lomagundi College and studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Live Performance at AFDA. He made his on-screen debut in the 2005 drama film Tanyaradzwa, for which he won the Best Actor for Film and Television Award. Some of his other roles include appearances in television series such as Crusoe, Sleepy Hollow, American Horror Story, and The Jim Gaffigan Show. More recently, he guest starred during three seasons of the CW sci-fi series iZombie as Justin Bell from 2017-2019. He also recurred in the 2019 Netflix drama Another Life.

Chirisa started acting in theatre before moving into television and film. From 2003 to 2005 he played Detective Trevor Davies in Studio 263, one of Zimbabwe's first locally produced soap operas.[6] He also appeared in the film Tanyaradzwa, for which he won a Best Actor award at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA).

In 2006 he relocated to South Africa, where he worked on projects including Mr Bones 2: Back from the Past (2008), playing Hekule. He moved to the United States around 2009. His American work has included the NBC series Crusoe as Man Friday, The Jim Gaffigan Show as Father Nicholas, iZombie as Justin Bell, Next Exit as Father Jack, and the film Antebellum.
