HARARE, Zimbabwe — OK Zimbabwe Limited has begun a major restocking drive after securing bank guarantees from two leading local financial institutions, a development that has enabled the retailer to unlock critical credit facilities and resume supplies from major manufacturers.
The move marks a significant step in the supermarket chain’s efforts to recover from its recent cash-flow challenges, with suppliers gradually restoring deliveries to its stores.
Major manufacturers, including Dairibord, ZimGold, Olivine, National Foods and Nestlé, have resumed supplying the retailer, allowing products to return to shelves and helping OK Zimbabwe rebuild its trading operations.

The return of key suppliers is expected to improve product availability and help the retailer recover customer traffic after a period in which some stores experienced significant shortages.
OK Zimbabwe reopens closed branches
As part of its recovery strategy, OK Zimbabwe is also reopening branches that were shut during the height of its financial difficulties.
The reopening of stores is aimed at restoring the company’s physical footprint while attracting customers back to its outlets.
The retailer’s recovery has been supported by an agreement with major trade creditors to defer payment of legacy debts.
The debt standstill arrangement has provided the company with additional liquidity and operational headroom as it works to stabilise its business.

Corporate Rescue Practitioner Bulisa Mbano confirmed that the agreements with major creditors had created room for the retailer to restart operations.
Mbano, however, cautioned that the recovery remained at an early stage.
Despite the challenges ahead, management remains optimistic that the measures being implemented will help stabilise the retailer and place it on a more sustainable footing.
The bank guarantees are particularly significant because they have helped restore confidence among suppliers, enabling manufacturers to resume deliveries after concerns over outstanding obligations had affected the flow of goods.
A critical recovery phase
For OK Zimbabwe, restoring reliable supplies will be central to its turnaround efforts.
Supermarket customers are generally sensitive to product availability, and empty or poorly stocked shelves can quickly translate into lost sales and declining customer loyalty.
The return of major brands, coupled with the reopening of previously closed branches, could therefore play an important role in rebuilding the retailer’s revenue base.
The company will now need to maintain supplier confidence, manage its working capital carefully and rebuild customer traffic as it moves through the rescue and recovery process.
If successful, the latest measures could mark the beginning of a broader turnaround for one of Zimbabwe’s long-established retail chains.
