Air Zimbabwe will resume direct flights between Harare and Johannesburg from August 19, restoring a route that connects Zimbabwe’s capital with South Africa’s largest city.
The national airline will operate the service three times a week, with flights scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The return of the route comes as Air Zimbabwe continues to expand its international and regional network.
According to the published schedule, Wednesday and Friday flights will depart from Harare at 11:30am and arrive in Johannesburg at 1:15pm.

Sunday services will depart Harare at 2:35pm, arriving in Johannesburg at 4:20pm. The flights will connect Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare with O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
Air Zimbabwe has also confirmed Johannesburg as one of its destinations on its official website. The airline’s passenger information lists Johannesburg among the destinations it serves, alongside Harare, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and Dar es Salaam.
The airline’s return to the route gives passengers travelling between Zimbabwe and South Africa another direct flight option. Johannesburg is an important regional travel destination for Zimbabwean passengers, including those travelling for business, family visits and other purposes.
Air Zimbabwe’s official website currently lists Johannesburg among its featured destinations and advertises fares for the route. The airline’s website also provides booking facilities for passengers planning regional and international travel.
The relaunch comes during a period of renewed expansion for Air Zimbabwe. The airline has also been restoring international services, including its direct Harare-London Gatwick operation, which returned in 2026 after a long suspension.
The Johannesburg service is being reintroduced as Air Zimbabwe works to strengthen its regional network. The airline’s schedule gives passengers three weekly options rather than a daily service on the Harare-Johannesburg route.
The flight schedule also provides different departure times across the three operating days. Passengers travelling on Wednesdays and Fridays will have a late-morning departure from Harare, while the Sunday service will leave in the afternoon.
The scheduled flight time between Harare and Johannesburg is approximately one hour and 40 minutes, according to Air Zimbabwe’s announcement of the returning service.
The airline’s official travel information states that passengers flying to Johannesburg are allowed one checked bag weighing up to 23kg, while cabin baggage is subject to an 8kg limit.
Air Zimbabwe has advised passengers to check their travel documents and destination requirements before travelling. Its published conditions state that passengers are responsible for ensuring that their passports, visas and health requirements are in order.
The relaunch also comes as competition on the Zimbabwe-South Africa air corridor remains active. Fastjet Zimbabwe has operated flights between Harare and Johannesburg, while other airlines also serve routes connecting Zimbabwe with South Africa.
Competition on the route means passengers will have different airline and scheduling options when travelling between the two countries. Air Zimbabwe’s return adds another direct service to the market, with its three weekly flights beginning on August 19.
The airline has not announced a daily schedule for the route in the information currently available. Its published timetable confirms services on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The relaunch is also part of a wider period of activity for Zimbabwe’s national airline. Air Zimbabwe’s website currently promotes both regional and international destinations and says it is focused on providing air travel services to Zimbabwean travellers, the African continent and destinations beyond the region.
For travellers between Harare and Johannesburg, the return of Air Zimbabwe’s direct flights provides additional capacity on one of the region’s established air routes.
