A 30-year-old Hatfield, Harare, man has appeared in court accused of strangling his wife to death with a shoelace following an alleged dispute over infidelity.
Stephen Sarurai appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Lisa Mutendereki facing a murder charge. He was not asked to plead to the charge.
Sarurai was remanded in custody to October 2 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The State alleges that on September 17, Sarurai and his wife, Zvikomborero Tari, had a misunderstanding over infidelity at their home in Hatfield.
According to the State, the dispute escalated when Sarurai allegedly assaulted Tari before strangling her with a shoelace.
The court heard that Tari was later taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital by her relatives after the alleged assault.
She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding Tari’s death form the basis of the murder allegations against Sarurai. The State is expected to present its case as the matter proceeds through the courts.
Sarurai has not pleaded to the murder charge. His remand in custody means that the case will continue while he remains in detention, with the court advising him to seek bail through the High Court.
The prosecution was handled by Mr Takudzwa Jambawo.
The case remains before the courts, where the allegations against Sarurai will be determined through the legal process.
