HARARE — Two children died after a man allegedly set a house on fire following a domestic dispute in Eastview, Mabvuku, in a suspected case of filicide.

The children were burnt beyond recognition in the fire, according to reports.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Gift Muyengwa, while his wife has been identified as Tsitsi Zuze, 22.

According to preliminary information, the couple allegedly had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed matter before the incident occurred.

It is alleged that Muyengwa stabbed Zuze before setting their cabin house on fire while the children were inside.

After the fire, Muyengwa allegedly turned the knife on himself and stabbed his stomach, reportedly exposing his intestines.

Both Muyengwa and Zuze survived the incident and were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare, where they are receiving treatment. Their conditions were reported to be critical.

The two children died at the scene after the fire engulfed the house. Their bodies were burnt beyond recognition.

Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the cause of the fire and the events leading up to the alleged domestic dispute.

The tragedy has shocked residents of Eastview in Mabvuku as authorities continue their investigations into the suspected case.
