A woman from Mberengwa has been arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly fatally attacking her 61-year-old husband with a farm brick during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred on September 20, 2026, at around 10pm at Village Mnandi, under Chief Chizungu in Mberengwa, according to police.
The deceased has been identified as Manford Mchede, while the suspect has been named as Thokozani Tshuma, who lived with Mchede as his wife.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and said preliminary investigations indicated that the couple had been at their homestead when a misunderstanding developed between them.
The disagreement allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Tshuma allegedly picked up a farm brick and struck Mchede several times on the head and face.
Police later attended the scene after receiving a report at ZRP Mberengwa and found Mchede unresponsive.
Officers reportedly recovered a blood-stained farm brick at the scene, which police believe may have been used in the attack.
Mchede’s body was subsequently taken to Mberengwa District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Tshuma was arrested on Tuesday and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to avoid resorting to violence when dealing with domestic disputes.
He encouraged people experiencing conflicts to seek assistance from the police, traditional leaders or other relevant authorities before disagreements escalate.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against Tshuma have not yet been tested in court.
