BREAKING:

PANASHE Muchenje, a 19-year-old engineering graduate from Hucknall, died after getting into difficulty while swimming at Balderton Lake in Nottinghamshire.

The incident happened on May 28, one of the hottest days of the year. Panashe was at the lake with two friends, another boy and a girl, when he experienced difficulties while in the water.

Emergency services attended the scene, but Panashe later died following the incident. Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The teenager lived in Hucknall and had recently completed his engineering studies at Nottingham College. According to his family, he had just finished his course and was preparing to pursue a career in the Royal Air Force.

His nephew, Maxwell Muchenje, 56, described him as a caring and respectful young man who was loved by many people around him.

“He was such a loving boy, very helpful, very respectful. He was an ardent Christian and a member of the youth club at the church,” Maxwell said.

He said Panashe was known for his enthusiasm and willingness to help others in both the church and the wider community.

“Everybody knew him for his energy, organising things and helping out,” he said.

Maxwell said Panashe’s future plans included joining the Royal Air Force after completing his studies at Nottingham College.

“He had just finished his course and was in the process of applying to join the Royal Air Force,” he said.

Family members said his death has left a deep sense of loss among relatives, church members and fellow students.

“It’s a tragic loss for the family and for the church community. His college also loved him to bits,” Maxwell said.

Panashe is being remembered as a dedicated student, a committed Christian and a young man who had plans for the future and a passion for serving others.
