Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has agreed a surprise deal with Italian Serie C club Ravenna, with the former World Cup winner set to be officially unveiled next week.
The 46-year-old retired from professional football after a brief spell with Fluminense in 2015, bringing an end to a successful career that included major honours at club and international level.
Despite his return to the football spotlight, Ronaldinho will not be coming out of retirement to play. Instead, he has joined the ambitious Italian side in a different capacity.

Ravenna narrowly missed promotion last season and club owner Ignazio Cipriani has been looking to strengthen the club’s profile with high-profile additions.
Ronaldinho’s arrival is expected to be formally announced during an event scheduled to take place in Miami next week.
Speaking about the move, the Brazilian said he was excited about the new chapter.
“New colours, same smile. I can’t wait to get back to dancing on the ball and write a new story together with Ignazio and the entire Cipriani family,” Ronaldinho said.
“Football has always been a source of joy for me, and I want to bring that same spirit to Ravenna,” he added.
Club owner Ignazio Cipriani described the acquisition as a major moment for Ravenna and revealed that Ronaldinho had been his childhood idol.
“I spent 24 years of my life in the United States, but I still consider Ravenna my home,” Cipriani said.
“Acquiring Ronaldinho is absolutely extraordinary for the club. He was my idol and his impact on football goes beyond what he did on the pitch,” he added.
Ronaldinho enjoyed one of football’s most celebrated careers, winning the FIFA World Cup with Brazil and claiming the Ballon d’Or award. His reputation and achievements made him one of the most recognised players of his generation.
The announcement is expected to bring increased international attention to Ravenna as the Serie C club continues its efforts to achieve promotion.
