Malian music icon Salif Keita is set to headline this year’s Ecobank Legends Night Africa in Zimbabwe, marking the return of one of the continent’s most celebrated musicians to the local stage. Organisers say the concert will continue the event’s tradition of bringing renowned African music legends to Zimbabwe.
Keita, widely known as “The Golden Voice of Africa,” has built an international reputation through his unique blend of traditional Manding music, Afro-pop and jazz. His career has spanned several decades, producing songs that have earned recognition across Africa and beyond.
Among his best-known songs are Yamore, Madan and Africa, which have influenced generations of African musicians and remain popular with audiences across the continent. His music has made him one of Africa’s most respected performers.

Zimbabwean audiences are familiar with Keita through his previous performances in the country. During earlier visits, he performed before enthusiastic crowds, with many music lovers praising his powerful vocals and commanding stage presence. His return is expected to renew interest among longtime fans while introducing younger audiences to his music.
The concert also comes as Zimbabwe’s live entertainment industry continues to recover and expand. In recent years, promoters have hosted several regional artists from countries such as South Africa, Tanzania and Nigeria, but performances by African music legends of Keita’s stature have been less frequent.
Ecobank Legends Night Africa has established itself as a platform dedicated to celebrating musicians whose work has stood the test of time. Organised by the Intotal Band, the concert series focuses on veteran African artists rather than current chart-topping performers, offering audiences an opportunity to experience established musicians in a live setting.
Unlike many mainstream music festivals that target younger audiences, Legends Night has attracted fans who appreciate live instrumentation, storytelling and musicianship. The event has also created opportunities for Zimbabwean musicians to perform alongside some of Africa’s most accomplished artists.
This year’s concert will feature Keita performing with the Intotal Band, one of Zimbabwe’s leading live music ensembles. The collaboration is expected to combine West African musical traditions with Zimbabwean instrumentation, creating a unique live performance for audiences.
Intotal Band founding member Joseph Chinouriri welcomed Keita’s return to Zimbabwe. “We are super excited that the legendary Salif Keita has agreed to come to Zimbabwe to perform at the Ecobank Legends Night Africa,” he said. “It’s such an honour for us young musicians to have him grace the stage together with Intotal Band. This is going to be an event of a lifetime, and we hope that we’ll be able to share these memories with all of Zimbabwe, Africa, and the world.”
Beyond his musical achievements, Keita is also recognised for his advocacy work. Born into Mali’s royal Keita family and living with albinism, he has used his international profile to promote inclusion and raise awareness about the rights of people living with albinism. His influence extends beyond music, making him one of Africa’s most respected cultural figures. As Zimbabwe prepares to host him once again, the concert is expected to celebrate both his enduring musical legacy and the continued appeal of African heritage music.
