Suspected drug dealers intercepted at tollgate

Police have arrested several suspected drug dealers in Gweru and Beitbridge, recovering hundreds of bottles of Benylin cough syrup and more than 430 kilogrammes of marijuana as the nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking continues.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, saying officers in Gweru intercepted two suspects at the Flamingo Tollgate along the Gweru–Shurugwi Road on July 24 after acting on received information.

The suspects, Sehlule Ndou (46) and Eunice Mhaka (42), were arrested for the unlawful possession of unregistered medicines.

“On July 24, police in Gweru acted on received information and arrested Sehlule Ndou (46) and Eunice Mhaka (42) for unlawful possession of unregistered medicines,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

He said the suspects were intercepted at the Flamingo Tollgate along the Gweru–Shurugwi Road.

“The suspects were intercepted at the Flamingo Tollgate along the Gweru–Shurugwi Road. Subsequently, 480 bottles (100ml each) of Benylin cough syrup were recovered,” he said.

In a separate operation, police in Beitbridge arrested Rabson Mashingaidze (54), Emmanuel Sibanda (35), Connias Muleya (35) and Charles Makanga (39) at the River Range illegal crossing point along the Limpopo River.

The four suspects were arrested in connection with the unlawful possession of 400 kilogrammes of marijuana, which police recovered during the operation.

Police also arrested Tinozivaishe Zimbeva (29) at the Reubex illegal crossing point along the Limpopo River after he was allegedly found in possession of 13 cobs of marijuana weighing 30.95 kilogrammes.

The latest arrests form part of the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s ongoing nationwide operation targeting drug trafficking, drug abuse and illegal cross-border activities.

Police have urged members of the public to continue providing information that may assist law enforcement agencies in combating drug-related crimes across the country.
